A Diverter Valve, also known as a three way valve, is a mechanical part of the boiler. it is designed to make sure the heat that is produced by the boiler is diverted to the hot water tap (If there is a need for hot water) or through the central heating system (if there is a demand for central heating). Note, a combi boiler can only supply heat to one source at a time, either central heating or hot water but never both at the same time.
If required when fitting diverter valves it is good practice to replace the fibre washers that connect the diverter valve to the pipe work. Also some diverter valves are connected to the pipe work via O?rings, these O?rings do need to be lubricated with silicone grease for 2 reasons:
